Gigolo Aunts - Minor Chords and Major Themes - Chad Bowar From i5ive, 05/25/99
The Gigolo Aunts have been around for over 10 years, but you may not have ever heard of them in the US. They are a band definitely worth listening to. They have had success in Japan and Europe and are trying to break through in the US.
Minor Cords and Major Themes is full of crafty melodies and pop sensibility. One of the best songs on the album is "The Big Lie", with guest vocals by Counting Crows lead singer Adam Duritz. The beautifully dreamy track "You'd Better Get Yourself Together, Baby," was featured in a recent episode of the TV series Felicity. There are also some harder rocking songs such as "Fade Away" and "Super Ultra".
Where did the album's title come from? Lead singer Dave Gibbs has the answer: "It's a lyric from the song "For a Moment, and it's sort of a joke within the band. We have some problems with most really sentimental songs. And then we found ourselves making a record full of them!"
