The Gigolo Aunts have something for every true pop fan : There's the bouncy leadoff track, "C'mon, C'mon," the moody "Everyone Can Fly" and the silly "Super Ultra Wicked Mega Love," a macho-guitar assault that has its tongue firmly planted in cheek. Perhaps the group can't manage to break into the mainstream because it doesn't fit into a neat category. Songs like "Residue" ring with sweet harmonies and an understated guitar jangle, as well as thoughtful introspective lyrics which chime just on this side of naive. What Minor Chords has that's so rarely heard these days out of genuine pop musicians is simple--the sensation that the band would play it even if they weren't being paid, a real sense of mission. Here's to converting the rest of the world.
